Mission Statement
Chris' Upstage Performance Studio is committed to providing quality instruction that emphasizes,
but is not limited to, technique, attitude and choreography. Through our instruction, students will
learn terminology and develop their passion for the art form they choose.
Each student will gain knowledge and skills to become a "performer", an individual who may be
inspired to become a professional.
Dance is movement, in ways that are primal, expressive, imaginative, and transformational. Dance
has a way of enhancing the quality of life for children, youth and adults.
Dance is a natural part of life. Dance can be challenging and rewarding while actively addressing
basic needs such as self-esteem and self-expression.
People of all ages, regardless of race, creed, sex or disability deserve the benefits associated with
learning dance. Dance educational experiences should be included from early childhood to higher
education and to special populations. Dance is for everyone and can be rewarding on any level.
PHYSICAL
Physical benefits appear through increased flexibility, improved circulation, general improvement of
body composition and muscle development, better posture, balance and coordination.
INTELLECTUAL
Training from a variety of instructors will enhance learning skills and learning styles, which improves
comprehension and retention of terminology.
EMOTIONAL
Improved self-confidence and self-esteem in a supportive and enjoyable environment, resulting in
better management and resolution of stress, anxiety, and depression.
SOCIAL
Improved etiquette, sensitivity, understanding, appreciation, and consideration of others both for
their similarities and their differences.
National Standards for Dance Education:
As a result of quality, comprehensive and sequential dance experiences students should:
develop an “attitude” that is positive toward dance as an activity and art form;
“feel the music”, “become the music” so their body moves to the rhythm with proper body
technique, projection, execution and timing;
be able to perform, choreograph and instruct dance routines and provide written movements
which aids in self-discovery and expression;
recognize and respect the importance of dance contributions from various ethnic groups,
societies and world culture, historical and current;
experience opportunities for those with capabilities and interest to continue professional
development;
know how dance connects to and supports life, culture, and society;
participate in and actively support dance within the community;
develop an appreciation, understanding, and enjoyment of dance as a form of personal
expression and lifelong learning.
